Are you looking for knitting classes near you? We offer classes for beginners and knitters at all levels. Our knitting instructors are knowledgeable, patient, and fun! Join us in class.

BEGINNING COLORWORK

 

This class will teach you the basics of knitting colorwork.  You will have your choice of knitting either a hat, a cowl or a tubular cowl for a toddler, child or adult. You must be comfortable knitting and purling in the round.  Note that colorwork patterns are in chart form and not written.

Two 2-hour classes with Kelly V.

Supplies:  Pattern will be supplied – pick up at shop prior to class and choose 2-3 colors to knit your choice of a hat, cowl or tubular cowl.  

Needles: Size per yarn choice

Yarn: The pattern allows for use of fingering/sock, DK or worsted aran weight yarns depending on your preference.

Cost: $50.00 plus supplies

Dates/Times:  Wednesdays, Sept 11 and 18; 10 am-noon

Homework:  Please read over the pattern; cast on and knit the ribbing for the project you would like to make.  This will allow us to maximize our class time for the colorwork portion of the project.

  

 

 

COLORWORK SWEATER

 

This class will use the Early Bloomer pattern by Heidi Kirrmaier which you will need to purchase from the shop prior to class.  This is a top-down, DK weight sweater that has a charted colorwork circular yoke.  It is knitted in the round with options for cropped or longer length customizable sleeve length.  There are short rows as well.

Cost: $60plus materials
Dates/Times: Wednesdays, Sept 11, 18 and Oct 2; 1-3 pm

Homework:  Read over the pattern and do gauge swatch prior to class.  Bring your swatch to class along with needle sizes that are smaller and larger than what the pattern calls for in case we need to adjust your needle size based on your gauge swatch.

 

GRANNY SQUARES

 

Take your crochet skills to a new place and join the growing fad of Granny Squares!  We will play with multiple colors of yarn, learn the magic circle and make fun Granny Squares.  In this class we will learn basic as well as double crochet Granny Squares.  If time permits, we will move on to a Daisy Square.

Please be comfortable with basic crochet, chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet and slip stitch.

One 2.5-hour class with Julie J.
Supplies: Worsted weight yarn in several colors of your choice.  Crochet hook 5.5 mm.  Tapestry needle and scissors
Cost: $35 plus materials
Dates/Times:  Tuesday Oct 22, 10-12:30

TEMPERATURE BLANKET

 

In this class you get to choose to either knit OR crochet a fun blanket!  This blanket will be large and wonderful for a bed.  Together we will pick our favorite colors and assign a temperature to them and show you how to add a row each day that corresponds to the temperature of the day.

One 2-hour classes with Kelly V. and Julie J.
Supplies: 4-5 skeins of yarn in your favorite colors to start this project.  As the temperature changes, you will add more colors for a total of 11 colors.

Crochet hook or Circular knitting needles based on yarn weight
Cost: $35 plus materials

NORWEGIAN SNOWFLAKE STOCKING

 

As you prepare to decorate your home for Christmas, you might be thinking that your family needs new stockings this year.  This is a traditional Norwegian pattern.  You will learn basic cuff down sock construction and have a chance to practice colorwork.  Some prior knowledge of colorwork is helpful.  Working from a chart will be required.

Three 2-hour classes with Kelly R.
Supplies: Worsted weight yarn in your choice of 2 colors.  You will need ~300 yds of  MC and ~130 yds of CC. US 8 16″ circular needles and US 8 DPNS  OR  US 8 40″ to work the magic loop

Cost: $50 plus materials
Dates/Times:  Thursdays, Nov 7, 14 and 21; 1-3 pm

SHORT ROWS

Zarya Shawl with Kelly R.

In this class you will make a shawl using the Zarya pattern by Louisa Harding using the 3-color kit put together specifically for this class.  This shawl has a beautiful texture and offers you the chance to practice short rows and color changes within a project.  You will also learn a picot cast on and picot bind off.

Two 2-hour classes with Kelly R.
Supplies: Zarya kit/pattern purchased from the shop prior to class.  US 9 knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.  Gauge is important in this shawl.  If you knit too loosely you will run out of yarn. 
Cost: $40 plus materials
Dates/Times:  Thursdays, Sept 12 and 19; 1-3 pm

Homework:  You are strongly encourages to knit a gauge swatch prior to class 

 

 

Learn the various methods of seaming, kitchener stitch, picking up stitches and weaving in ends. Basic knitting (cast on, knit, purl) experience is required.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Classes fill up quickly so reserve your spot early. Please make sure you can attend all the scheduled classes. Make-up classes are at the discretion of the instructor. Class fees are nonrefundable. Sheepskeins Yarn Shop reserves the right to cancel the class if less than 3 people sign up – students can sign up for later classes.

All supplies must be purchased prior to class to ensure no class time is used for this purpose. Please be sure to bring all notions you will need as well as a pen/pencil for note taking to class. All project yarn must be purchased from Sheepskeins Yarn Shop.
